THE BUZZ: Jungles are coming to Minecraft, and here are a few screenshots of what they’ll look like—along with some information about them and other updates.
EGM’s TAKE: Remember when some people were afraid that Minecraft moving to final status meant we’d be getting no more updates to the game? That certainly isn’t the case, as today Mojang game developer Jens Bergensten gives us a look at some of the most recent changes hitting the world of mining and crafting.
Before we get to jungles, let me hit some of the other changes mentioned: Dispensers will now place mobs instead of releasing the spawner egg; zombies will now have path-finding AI (meaning they’ll go around obstacles to get to you, instead of getting stuck on them); and wolves will now have new AI and can be bred when tamed.
So, jungles! The addition of biomes to Minecraft have brought us a lot of new area types, and this is the latest one to come. Jungles, of course, will be densely-vegetated areas, and will bring in some different elements versus your typical forests. Both the tree and leaf types will be completely new, and trees will have vines which are climbable by players.
In order to get this new biome, you’ll need to create a new world. However, for those still happily playing their old worlds, Bergensten promises that the addition of the new biome won’t cause any errors for such players.
