Nintendo officially announced an amiibo figurine based on the popular indie platformer Shovel Knight in a new trailer, which also promises a Wii U exclusive co-op mode for the game.

The video, which features Arin Hanson and Ross Donovan of the YouTube channel Game Grumps, shows off the new figure and details exactly what the amiibo will unlock.

Along with opening up a Wii U exclusive co-op mode, the amiibo also has functionality with the 3DS version of Shovel Knight, unlocking a customizable knight for both Wii U and 3DS versions and introducing all new challenge stages to the latter.

In a press release, developer Yacht Club Games said they “plan to continue support of the Shovel Knight amiibo in future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products!” Could this mean that our dreams of getting Shovel Knight into Super Smash Bros. may come true?

There is no news about when the Shovel Knight amiibo will be available, but Yacht Club Games has promised more information “soon!”
