Yacht Club Game’s love letter to 8-bit pixelated platformers, Shovel Knight, will miss its March 31 release date by a few weeks for a bit more polish, the developer announced on the game’s Kickstarter page.

“We hemmed and hawed, and made a Super Important Executive Decision,” reads the post. “This update is to let everyone know that Shovel Knight will be missing March 31 by a few weeks to make sure it’s a world class experience, and can release on all platforms simultaneously. This isn’t a major delay, or a long one; it’s simply a stretch of time to get everything polished and aligned.”

According to the studio, they don’t want to announce a new release “until it’s 100% locked in with both Nintendo and Steam” (Shovel Knight is coming to 3DS, Wii U, and PC).

For those of you new to the Shovel Knight scene, the game is a hybrid of Mega Man mechanics and the pogo-stick jumping from the 1989 NES jam DuckTales (recently given renewed life with the DuckTales Remastered remake from WayForward Technologies). Yacht Club Games, founded by former WayForward devs, took to Kickstarter to fund Shovel Knight early last year. Seeking only a $75,000 goal, the studio wound up raking in $311,502.
