Shovel Knight Showdown includes multiplayer brawler, story modes

Yacht Club Games has revealed the final DLC for its retro hit Shovel Knight will be a local multiplayer brawler with some unique bonuses.

According to the developer’s recent blog post, Shovel Knight Showdown will consist of three modes that include four-player and single-player experiences. The developer has teased that over 16 characters will be available to use, including Shovel Knight, Specter Knight, The Enchantress, and a few unannounced fighters. The DLC will go for $9.99, but players with the Treasure Trove pack will receive Showdown for free. The expansion will be available on all platforms that players can currently enjoy Shovel Knight on, except for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

In Showdown mode, up to four friends can participate in a brawl to see who can rack up the most KOs. For a similar experience, Gem Clash mode will throw in collectible gems that will be nabbed to boost a player’s ending score. The upcoming DLC will also include a single-player Story mode. Players will be able to participate in short missions for each of the 16 playable characters that will lead to a “new final encounter.” Along the way, the heroes and villains will be confronted with one-on-one Knight battles and have their stories expanded in the Shovel Knight universe.

While Showdown will mark the final stretch goal for the Kickstarter game, players are still waiting for the third DLC. The previously announced King of Cards expansion was teased a while back by Yacht Club Games, and according to the developer’s post, a release date will finally be announced later this week.

Shove Knight Showdown will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Amazon Fire TV. No release date has been revealed.
