Shovel Knight's upcoming DLC, amiibo release dates revealed

Shovel Knight fans should mark April 9th, 2019 on their calendars, because it will be blowing their platformer-loving minds.

As revealed by IGN, the upcoming expansions for Yacht Club Games’ Shovel KnightKing of Cards and Showdown—will arrive on April 9th. If that’s not enough, though, the developer also revealed the previously announced amiibo trio of King Knight, Specter Knight, and Plague Knight will arrive on the same day. Oh, and a $39.99 physical version of Treasure Trove, which comes packed with all current and future DLC, will launch on, you guessed it, April 9th for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

The other good news is that the digital version of Treasure Trove, which has been available for several months, will still be available for $24.99. Plus, players that purchase it now or currently own the collection will receive the upcoming King of Cards and Showdown expansions for free.

Yacht Club Games unveiled the Showdown DLC only a few days ago, promising a release date for it and King of Cards would be announced soon. In Showdown, players will have access to 16 playable heroes and villains from Shovel Knight to use in the four-player brawler modes Showdown and Gem Clash. The expansion will also come with a single-player Story mode.

As for King of Cards, the powerful and haughty King Knight will finally get his own campaign. Similar to the Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment expansions, players will be able to take King Knight through a new campaign filled with boss fights, challenging stages, and upgrades exclusive to the king.

Shovel Knight is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and Amazon Fire TV. The King of Cards expansion will launch for all platforms on April 9th. The Showdown DLC will be available for all platforms (except Vita and 3DS) on the same day.
