SimCity creator Will Wright’s new company, Syntertainment, has secured $5 million in investments and added former Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello to its board of directors, GamesBeat reports.
“John is one of the smartest guys I know,” Will Wright said in a post on Syntertainment’s official website. “I’ve always enjoyed working with him, especially because he really is a gamer at heart. At the same time his strategic insights into the rapid evolution of the entertainment industry continue to inform and inspire me.”
“I am thrilled to be working with Will and Avi [Bar-Zeev, co-founder] on what I believe may be the next great thing,” said Riccitiello. “I have worked with Will for many years and believe in his vision for Syntertainment. Will and Avi have built a great team and it promises to get even better from here.”
According to the company’s About page, Syntertainment “lives at the intersection of entertainment and reality” and “are dedicated to changing the world through uniquely fun and lasting user experiences.” I’ll be frank with everyone reading this post: I have absolutely no idea what that really means.
As for what the company is working on? “This is not a huge megaproject,” Wright told GamesBeat. “It is an evolution of my interests.”
