SimCity offline update ‘is in final testing’

Posted on March 14, 2014 AT 03:35am

The highly anticipated offline update for SimCity is now in the final stages of testing, according to developer Maxis.

“Update 10 is in final testing. Almost there Mayors,” the developer wrote on Twitter. Since the game’s release, back in March 2013, players have needed an Internet connection to play the game, without one it would just boot you out. At launch this led to many problems as the servers weren’t up to the task and many players were left unable to play the game they had bought.

These issues were later ironed out, but players have been requesting an offline mode ever since. Back in January, Maxis general manager Patrick Buechner officially confirmed that an offline mode was in the works and would be delivered as part of update 10.

“Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection,” he wrote at the time.

“In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world. What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content.”
