Skiing confirmed for Battlefield V—at least in single-player

Battlefield V is returning to the anthology format introduced in Battlefield 1 for its single-player content, and now it’s released some more solid information about what we can expect from its first War Story.

The first trailer for “Nordlys,” the Norwegian-set War Story about a young resistance fighter, gave us a pretty decent idea of how her mission might play out, but a recent blog post confirmed some of the story’s mechanics.

First off, there’s going to be skiing. We saw skiing in the trailer, but the blog post confirms that players will “ski the frozen Scandinavian landscapes to move between objectives.” Whether or not skiing will show up in the multiplayer portion of Battlefield V is yet to be seen.

Stealth will also play a significant role in “Nordlys.” As our resistance fighter, players will “infiltrate enemy installations using stealth, takedown unsuspecting enemy guards, and utilize evasion to help even the overwhelming odds.” However, it sounds like at any point players can trip an alarm, alerting soldiers and triggering gunfights in which the odds are not in your favor.

If that sounds familiar, it’s exactly how developer DICE has described one of the missions in Battlefield V‘s new co-op mode, Combined Arms. On this front, it seems likely that War Stories in Battlefield V will function similarly to how they functioned in Battlefield 1, which was as an introduction to the game’s various multiplayer mechanics, including driving tanks, piloting fighters, and capturing points as an infantry soldier.

The only other location confirmed for a Battlefield V War Story is the “scorching North African desert,” with future locations to be revealed as the game’s release date inches ever closer.

In the meantime, you can check out our multiplayer gameplay of Battlefield V‘s new Grand Operations mode, which we recently captured at EA Play.

Battlefield V is launching on October 19th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
