Fans hoping to get a jump start on pre-ordering the SNES Classic have already been burned once by Walmart, but Nintendo has promised that next time pre-orders go up, it will be for real.
In a recent Facebook post, Nintendo promised that pre-orders for the SNES Classic will go up “late this month,” well ahead of the console’s release date at the end of September.
“We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month,” Nintendo wrote in a post on Facebook. “A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.”
What’s noteworthy in the latter half of that statement is the “significant” number of consoles heading to stores, seemingly a step up from the impossible-to-find NES Classic Edition. Perhaps Nintendo has learned its lesson and will have more units readily available—though given how quickly the false Walmart pre-orders sold out, the SNES Classic is still likely to vanish from store shelves quickly.
The SNES Classic releases on September 29th. Be sure to check back for the exact date pre-orders go live.
