SNK Playmore brings one of the best scrolling shooter titles in history to mobile devices, as Blazing Star was made available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices just yesterday. It retails for $2.99 on both stores, and even comes with a few additions.

Both the iOS and Android versions are “arcade perfect” ports that faithfully reproduce the entire original NEO-GEO title, as well as containing a few typical extras:

  • A new “mission mode” that lets you practice single stages
  • Bluetooth-supported co-op gameplay
  • Alternate control schemes via touch-screen or the virtual control pad
  • Game Center achievements for the iPhone and iPad version

It’s too bad there doesn’t seem to be any auto-fire option, so you’ll have to make do with the game as it was meant to be played. Blazing Star isn’t for the lazy.

Also, it’s a solid buy for all you new Nexus 7 owners. Blazing Star is also optimized for the Xperia Play as well, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t pick it up this weekend.

Not convinced? Take a look at this video below and tell me that this game doesn’t look like it’s worth a few bucks and an hour.
