Catherine, the first release from Atlus for HD gaming platforms, has gained this reputation as being a naughty, adults-only type of game. Thanks to the ESRB, we can now tell you if that’s true or not.
Unsurprisingly, the game has received an “M for Mature” rating from the ESRB, but really, things aren’t sounding too scandalous.
Violence-wise, Vincent can be killed by traps, giant boss creatures (which include “a chainsaw-wielding baby”), or by getting stabbed, crushed, shot, or bitten.
The game will also feature alcoholic beverages, such as mixed cocktails, beer, sake, and whiskey; if Vincent drinks more than three drinks at a time, he’ll begin to stumble around.
So, what about the sex? Well… get ready to be disappointed if you were expecting too much. While there is some “sexuality” in the game, the raunchiest it ever gets is seeing “a man’s legs, then his curling toes”, or “a woman caressing her body while making suggestive comments”. Nudity? Sure, a little – there are topless demons in the game, but “shadow effects obscure most details”.
Oh, and there are some uses of “f**k” and “s**t”. So, there you go – other than the language, nothing you couldn’t see on prime-time television on any given night really.
