SOCOM 4 1.05 Patch Ready to Launch

Posted on September 20, 2011 AT 02:00pm

THE BUZZ: Community Manager for Zipper Interactive, Chris Roper, has laid out for everyone what to expect from the SOCOM 4 patch that fans of the game have been waiting for since the game was first released in April. Here, according to Roper on the Playstation Community Forums, is what to expect from the patch, which should drop either late tonight or early tomorrow morning:

  • Using the knife no longer silences footsteps
  • Classic mode mic system has been changed from Tap-to-Talk to open chat
  • Fixed Classic Bomb Squad double round win bug
  • Reduced the accuracy of SMGs at long distance
  • Grenade launchers no longer kill the user when fired at long distances or over a wall
  • Reinstated weapon accuracy when quickly tapping fire button
  • Several level collision issues have been adjusted

Party and Clan Systems

  • Party leaders may now optionally allow party members to invite in other players
  • Numerous Party system stability enhancements
  • Numerous Clan system stability enhancements

  • Player counts on map voting screens are now accurate
  • Fixed round transition freezes
  • Numerous UI element bugs have been fixed

EGM’S TAKE: The big question is has the damage already been done? A patch that is five months in the making for a game that had diehard fans of the series up in arms with its lackluster execution isn’t going to go very far in smoothing things over. Although clearly the changes are numerous and necessary, this begs several questions like why weren’t these changes part of the game in the first place, what took so long to make the changes once it was realized that there were so many bugs, and at this point, with Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 around the corner, who the heck is still going to be playing SOCOM beyond another month anyway?
