No matter what you think about Sega’s blue mascot and his troubled video game history, it’s a widely accepted fact that Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series has easily been one of the best of parts of the Sonic franchise since 1993. Now, Capcom is taking a bold step into a huge new arc with Sega, as their two most famous characters will collide.
Ever since Archie Comics signed a deal with Capcom to produce the Mega Man comic series, the line has been receiving critical praise and widespread approval from the fanbase. Now that the comics publisher has two gaming icons under their umbrella, they’re wasting no time in mashing to two worlds together.
News of the arc first came up with the following Twitter post, sent out by USA Today comics reporter Brian Truitt:
According to USA Today, the crossover storyline will span 12 issues in three different Archie Comics’ series: Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and Sonic Universe. It’s the first time either Sonic or Mega Man will have met, inside or outside of the video game genre, and with 20 years of history behind the Sonic Comics’ storyline, it’ll be interesting to see the fallout.
