Sony Adds PocketStation Support to PlayStation Vita

Posted on November 5, 2013 AT 02:59am

Sony has released a PocketStation app in Japan for the PlayStation Vita, which emulates the device on the handheld.

The original PocketStation was a memory card with an LCD display, which acted as a second screen for certain PSOne titles. The app, which is available now for free for all PlayStation Plus subscribers in Japan, adds PocketStation support to all PlayStation Classics on the PlayStation Store that originally supported the device.

On its own the app is useless–it can’t even be booted from the main Vita menu. To use it players must first boot up a compatible PSOne Classic and then choose to load the appropriate PocketStation mini-game.

A total of 66 titles supported the PocketStation in Japan including Final Fantasy VIII and Spyro the Dragon. There’s no word if the app will be released for Vita owners in the West.
