THE BUZZ: Sony Computer Entertainment, Nintendo and EA have pulled their support for the Stop Online Piracy Act introduced by the United States House of Representatives last year.

The bill is intended to, ”promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation by combating the theft of U.S. property, and for other purposes.” However, many feel that it simply prevents freedom of speech and could be used as a form of censorship in the future. The withdrawal comes after hacking group Anonymous sent a threat out to Sony claiming that if it continued support for the act an attack would begin.

EGM’s TAKE: The withdrawal may have nothing to do with Anonymous, but Sony also doesn’t want to take risks after their last network hack.
