THE BUZZ: Sony Computer Entertainment associate product marketing manager Mick Perona today announced the Uncharted 3 Fortune Hunters’ Club.
What is that, you ask? It’s a new service of sorts coming out for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception which is similar to the “Season Pass” concept that has been tried with many other games.
By pre-ordering now for $24.99, players will get the first four Uncharted 3 multiplayer DLC map packs, along with as the first three multiplayer DLC skin packs. As well, for going for the Uncharted 3 Fortune Hunters’ Club offer, you’ll get an exclusive Fortune Hunters’ Club XMB theme, and XMB notifications when your map and skin packs are up and ready for downloading.
While exactly what maps and skins are part of this offer has yet to be revealed, Perona said that this offer will contain DLC “valued at over $45.00″—meaning you’ll see a savings of over 45% versus purchasing the same content separately when it hits.
EGM’s TAKE: This is a nice offer for those who are interested in all of the DLC content, but for me—I just don’t know. I miss the days when you’d buy a game, and everything that was going to exist for the game was there for your $60 (or whatever).
I’m especially not that big of a fan of map packs for multiplayer games—unless the packs are free. Paid DLC map packs split the online community between those that have the maps, and those that don’t. With each new map pack that hits, the potential opponents you’ll find when you go only gets less and less.
