Sony ruffled some feathers at Gamescom 2012 last week when they announced the PlayStation 3/PS Vita “Cross Buy” feature would be exclusive to Europe, but thankfully, that isn’t the case. North America is getting it too, but Japan is now the odd man out.

Sony Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida went to his Twitter feed to address comments that he made about the service, which lets PlayStation users who buy a game on PS3 download a free PS Vita version.

Apparently, something was lost in translation when he talked to Famitsu (relayed by Andriasang):

PS Vita-PS3 Cross Buy price promo is coming to both Europe and North America. My quote by Famitsu was meant as ‘not decided for Japan yet.

Japan’s de-inclusion is odd to say the least, but might have something to do with the horrid install base of the PS3 in that region, especially compared to North America and Europe.

Currently, the Cross Play service supports Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, and PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale. More games will be added on later, but don’t expect many older PS3 titles to join the list.
