Sony has confirmed that its faithful black box has ceased production worldwide, following news last week of production coming to an end in Japan.

Sony has confirmed to The Guardian that the end of production isn’t exclusive to Japan. The PlayStation 2 has been in production for 12 years and sold 150 million units worldwide, making it the best selling console in history–not a bad achievement.

The PlayStation 2 brought many gamers hours of joy and will be sorely missed by millions. Rest in peace.
