The difference in quality between the original PlayStation Vita’s OLED screen and the new PlayStation Slim’s LCD screen is barely noticeable, Sony U.K. managing director Fergal Gara told VG247.

“What’s happened in the interim is LCD screen technology has improved significantly,” Gara told VG247. “Whilst some think there’s a subtle difference between the two, we think it’s relatively imperceptible.”

“Technology is always full of compromises and trade-offs, and we believe we’ve got the trade-offs right,” Gara added. “In other words, if there’s any degradation in screen technology it’s very subtle, but it’s also helping us achieve other advantages.”

Earlier this week, Sony announced the Vita Slim would launch in the U.K. next week, on February 7. There’s been no mention of a North American release yet, though it seems like an inevitability.
