Sony ‘EyePad’ Tablet Patent Surfaces

Back in summer 2012, Sony filed a patent for a tablet device known as the EyePad–not too sure if Apple would allow this name to be used at retail.
The patent was spotted by Gamechup, and describes the EyePad as “a panel, tablet or slab-like device,” which would be used as “an input device for an entertainment device.” This seems to suggest that tablet is designed as a peripheral for a console–either the PlayStation 3 or 4.
The device is said to include “One or more motion sensors operable to generate motion data, and a wireless communicator for transmitting the motion data to the entertainment device, wherein an elongate illuminated region extends along some or all of one or more of the side edges.” Also “the input device may comprise a first stereoscopic camera and a second stereoscopic camera.”
Whether this device will ever see the light of day is unknown, but unless it was offered with the console I doubt many would bother throwing the money down for something that a controller can do just as well.
What do you think of the EyePad? Would you use it? Let us know in the comments below.
