Sony Leads Cavalcade of Toy and Game Manufacturers at Children’s Hospital Charity

Posted on December 6, 2013 AT 11:57am

Sony has teamed up with Mattel, Hasbro, and other major toy manufactures to bring a little extra holiday cheer to Children’s Hospital LA this year.

With the “console war” having been the focus of the gaming media for the past several weeks, and images of crazed mothers rampaging through retailers on Black Friday still fresh in our minds, it’s easy to forget what part of the holiday season is truly about: giving back to those less fortunate. And sometimes those who may not be as lucky as the rest of us are children where doorbuster deals and midnight launches aren’t even on their radars.

Located towards the edge of Hollywood in the heart of Los Angeles, Children’s Hospital LA provides multidisciplinary care to over 104,000 children per year. It was the first, and remains the largest, Los Angeles hospital dedicated specifically to treating children.

With that in mind, Sony, leading the way with a little red wagon filled to the brim with a PS4, some PS3s, and a variety of games for each system, was part of a group of toy and game manufactures who took it upon themselves yesterday to help brighten the holidays for some great kids who are struggling with real issues right now.

The event, put together in partnership with CBS, had the gifts passed out by some of the network’s biggest stars from such shows as NCIS and The Millers and has become an annual tradition at the hospital.

“We were introduced to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Holiday Event by Brian Dietzen [NCIS’s Jimmy Palmer] three years ago,” explained a Sony representative when asked how they became involved with the charity. ”Brian is a PlayStation fan who is very involved with the charity at the hospital, and a true inspiration to his community.

“Brian shared some amazing stories of the staff, family and patients of the hospital and asked for our help in donating product to help make their holiday and hospital stay a little brighter. This is our third year working with the hospital, and we are honored to be partnering with the them in hopes of making a small difference for those going through a tough time.”
