Sony Tops E3 2012 Game Critics Awards Nominees Thanks To The Last of Us

Every gaming publication in the Game Critics Awards (including EGM) has submitted their votes for the best games of E3 2012, and the list of nominees features at lot of heavy hitter, triple-A titles—but not many from Nintendo.

Right now, the duel of “Best of Show” is being fought between the following games, with only two console exclusives from Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in the running. In fact, Nintendo, the only other competitor among the three console companies, didn’t get a single nod in any of the console-centric best game categories:

Best of Show
- Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft Montreal/Ubisoft for PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
- Dishonored (Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks for PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
- Halo 4 (343 Industries/Microsoft Studios for Xbox 360)

- The Last of Us (Naughty Dog/SCEA for PlayStation 3)
- Tomb Raider (Crystal Dynamics/Square-Enix for PS3, Xbox 360)

Getting down to mobile games, handheld systems, and genre-specific categories, the playing field is a bit more spread out, with the Nintendo WiiU, 3DS, iOS, the PlayStation Vita, and more than a few PC-exclusive titles picking up the slack.

As the official Games Critics Awards website notes, Sony had the best showing of any publisher, picking up 12 nominations across all the categories and 52 individual nominations based on PlayStation platforms.
