Sony Might Bundle PS3 With PlayStation Vita This Christmas

Can PlayStation Vita sales be salvaged by bundling it with the PlayStation 3? That’s one tactic that Sony might use to boost the install base of their fledging handheld system, possibly this year.

While talking with CVG, Sony’s Fergal Gara noted that a bundle pack for both systems definitely isn’t “out of the question” for the upcoming holiday season:

“We put together packages for retail, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t create a ‘Vita plus PS3′ bundle, which could feature games that use cross-play, as well as include a PlayStation Plus subscription that both devices could use.”

“There is really a story there of the two consoles building a partnership. ‘Better together’, as I say. If we want to continue to promote the partnership between PS3 and Vita, we have to look at ways in which we can show that.”

Although the PS Vita is less than a year old, it hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves.

If Sony wants to get more of them into gamers’ hands, a bundle that discounts the price below what both systems could cost separately could be a success—but it’s a solution that still comes with a few problems. Not only is Sony strapped for cash, but reports say that the electronic giant takes a loss on every PS Vita sold.
