Sony – ‘Never say Never’ to New PlayStation 3 Slim Model
Posted on June 13, 2012 AT 07:15am
Three years ago Sony re-invented the PlayStation 3 with the release of the slim edition. With the original console now entering its sixth year and the PlayStation 4 not expected until at least next year, will Sony decide to release a new version of the PS3? According to Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, it’s definitely an option.
When asked if the company had any plans to release an even slimmer, cheaper model, Yoshida teased, “Never say never.”
“We haven’t announced anything new on PS3 in terms of hardware revisions. We should never say never–hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller.” When probed further he added, ”I don’t know if we are going to talk about anything like that. We are quite happy with the PS3.”
No definitive answer was offered either way, so there’s at least a possibility that a new version could be announced soon. A new model would help bridge the gap between generations and may provide a welcome sales boost if priced correctly. On the other hand, would anyone be willing to purchase a new console revision this far into the life-cycle?
