THE BUZZ: Sony has officially announced God of War: Ascension, after a product listing leaked online.

Box art for the title leaked on Amazon last night and now Sony has officially confirmed the game with a teaser trailer. The team at Sony Santa Monica Studios is once again in charge.

Sony failed to offer any more details about the game, but did promise that more information will be made available April 30th at 8am PDT.

EGM’s TAKE: Well it may not be God of War IV, but it’s as close as it gets. Everybody knew that Santa Monica were working on a new God of War game, we just didn’t know what it was. Finally the proverbial cat has been let out of the bag in the form of Ascension. From the looks of the trailer the game will depict a time before Kratos became a crazy, powerful god killer. Acting as a prequel to the original God of War. Does this mean that the gameplay will change, will we be offered less power to depict Kratos’ lesser status? Hopefully a few of these questions will be answered April 30.

Are you excited? Do you like the idea of a prequel? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
