Sony On Next Gen – ‘We Will Probably Be the Last to Announce Something’

THE BUZZ: PlayStation France CEO Philippe Cardone has said that Sony will, ”probably be the last to announce something” in regards to next generation consoles.
He claims that the first is under less pressure to make an announcement, compared to rivals like Nintendo who’s Wii console is losing ground. ”It’s true that there are many rumours, but I couldn’t tell you anything,” he said. “The Wii is pressed for time because it is in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to leave the PS3, we will probably be the last to announce something.”
EGM’s TAKE: There have been so many rumors floating around over the last month regarding next generation consoles, it’s difficult to know what to believe. A next generation E3 seems likely at the moment, however Sony won’t rush their next console to market, and will probably wait to see what Microsoft does first. Many of the rumors point to Microsoft dropping the curtain at E3, so based on this don’t expect to see the next generation PlayStation make an appearance. Everything is up in the air right now and it will only get worse the closer we get to E3 2012.
