Sony has issued a statement confirming that the PlayStation Network has not been hacked and user data is safe, after hacktavist group Anonymous claimed to have got hold of a 50GB database.
The group claimed to have stolen the database which contained the data of around 10 million accounts and then published the email list online. A Sony rep has confirmed to CVG that this list is fake and that no data has been stolen, “We’ve confirmed that the recent claim that PlayStation Network was illegally hacked and that customer passwords and email addresses were accessed is completely false.”
It turns out that the email list posted by Anonymous was a copy and paste of a list released back in March, which has nothing to do with the PlayStation Network.
