Sony has released a new video teasing a “PlayStation 2013″ event coming up on February 20th—and, along with the trailer, these words: “See the future.”

Now, I don’t want to get too excited here—but I can sure see where this might be going. An event coming before E3, the words “see the future”—it is absolutely possible that this could be the first official unveiling of the PlayStation 4.

According to games analyst Michael Pachter, invites are going out to both investors and the media for attending the event live, and he says “that means console announcement”.

Sure, it could end up that this is an announcement not nearly as exciting as the PlayStation 4. However, Sony knows that, at this point, everybody is waiting for the unveiling of next-generation hardware—doing too much of a tease for something not quite as exciting could completely backfire.

So, as of now, I’m getting exciting! Those next-fen PlayStation and Xbox console could really, truly, finally be coming!
