Sony had something amazing to reveal at the Fan Expo 2011 in Canada, giving attendees their first hands on with the new Virtual Reality prototype that they are currently developing.
It is known as the Sony Head Mount Display and could very well be the future of gaming. Ever since we watched sci-fi films as kids and saw virtual reality in action we have dreamed of the day when it would become an actual plausible reality, not like the failed attempts back in the 90′s, and the Sony Head Display may bring us just that.
You wear the headset like a really big pair of glasses equipped with 5.1 surround sound headphones and two 3 inch Organic-LED screens with a resolution of 1280x720p.
The Emptylifebar described their amazement at the glasses;
“My first reaction was my mouth dropping and me pulling the headset off to look at it, cause my eyes did not believe what they were seeing. One of the Sony representatives at the expo laughed at my reaction, and went on to explain the prototype to me as I kept looking at this new headset. One thing I instantly noticed was that I was looking at a FPS game, and that the way the screens were set up made me feel like I was actually in the FPS”
A Sony Representative said that when the retail model is released the headset will fit more comfortably on the persons head and will have full motion tracking available.
No date was given for the release date of the headset. Would you like to see gaming take a genuine step into the world of virtual reality or is just another cheap add on gimmick?
