Sony Santa Monica Job Listings Strongly Hint at Unannounced Project in Development

Posted on May 9, 2013 AT 11:24am

According to a pair of job listings for God of War developer Sony Santa Monica, the studio is currently working on an unannounced project.

Job listings for a senior combat designer listed on Gamasutra and a designer call for creators experienced with building open-world games, designing vehicular combat, and developing third- and first-person shooters. The senior combat designer’s responsibilities include mention of “environmental character impact” and “magical distribution.”

So: magic, third- and first-person shooting, vehicular combat, and a strong emphasis on environmental interaction. My personal wild theory? The first God of War, when beaten on Spartan, unlocked a video set in the modern day, with archaeologists excavate Pandora’s Temple and unearthing Pandora’s Box. And the narrator mentions how “a new hero will emerge.” I’ve embedded the video at the bottom of this post.

Or, you know, it could be a completely new IP. That would probably be best—for the studio and for us gamers.
