Sony Set To Acquire Rights For An Assassin’s Creed Movie

THE BUZZ: After the questionable success of the Prince of Persia movie, Ubisoft decided to launch Ubisoft Motion Pictures, an internal effort to foster better representation of its properties in other forms of media.
No doubt coming as a part of those efforts, it seems the division has now fostered a deal with Sony Pictures for the creation of a film based around the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While the deal is not yet finalized, Variety says that the studio is in final negotiations for the project, having won a bidding war that had been taking place among other studios such as Universal.
No doubt part of the deal will include Ubisoft having some level of creative control over the film, so that the company can make sure the Assassin’s Creed series is treated properly. So, I guess, no Assassin’s Creed in Space or Assassin’s Creed Takes Los Angeles or anything like that.
EGM’s TAKE: That’s strange, because I thought there was already an Assassin’s Creed movie deep into production. I mean, there’s already a trailer for it!
