Sony talks more about using the PS Vita as a controller for the PS3

Nintendo may be talking up the idea of a controller that receives content streamed to it with their upcoming Wii U, but there’s another company who has already done that with currently-existing hardware: Sony.

A number of games have offered the means to stream content from the PS3 to the PSP, and that potential will be even more apparent when the PS Vita is released.

“PS3 can send data down to Vita and Vita can display it. You could use the unique features [of Vita] – gyroscope, touch front and back – as a control device for a PS3 game,” Sony Europe R&D manager Phil Rogers said at the recent Develop Conference 2011. He also pointed out that, since the Vita will have a lot of processing power (unlike the Wii U controller), you’ll be able to do more graphically.

Rogers said that while Sony currently doesn’t have a lot of plans in place for doing such things just yet, the company was encouraging developers to talk to Sony if they had any good ideas.

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! – Would you like Sony to do games that combine the PS3 and PS Vita, similar to what Nintendo will be doing with the Wii U?
