Sony has released an unexpected teaser video that appears to suggest that the company plans to revive its PocketStation peripheral in some form.
The video states that an announcement regarding the PocketStation will be made on November 5. First released in 1999, the device was a PS1 memory card that doubled as a basic second-screen device. It’s 32×32 dot monochrome LCD screen displayed additional information for certain games. The device was discontinued in 2002.
It’s unclear how Sony will revive the peripheral, or if it is attached to the launch of the PlayStation 4 next month. However, it stands a good chance that it will be re-released as a mobile app rather than an actual peripheral.
The PlayStation 4 is set to release November 15 in North America and November 29 in Europe.
