As a way of saying “thanks for not abandoning us” to all of those who stuck out the outage of PSN, Sony is giving you some free games and other items. Those offers have now officially begun. Here are the details, including notes on what to do if you have issues downloading your free games.

To be eligible to receive the Welcome Back items, you need to have had a PSN account registered before April 20, 2011. If you did, then you’ll be able to select two free games for the PS3, and two free games for the PSP. These games will be available until July 3rd.

Also available now is the ability to begin your free 30-day PlayStation Plus trial. Your trial will expire 30 days after the date that you activate it. Those who were already subscribers to PlayStation Plus will be getting 60 additional days of the service automatically added to their account.

Also, for anybody who uses PlayStation Home, you’ll be able to receive 100 free virtual items for use in Home. Those free items can be found at the kiosk in Home’s Central Plaza, along with two personal spaces: Dragon’s Lair and Mansion Garage. Included with this is a free game – Ooblag’s Alien Casino – that will be launching later this month.

If you have problems downloading your games (from Sony’s PlayStation Blog):

Q: I no longer have the option to choose my free Welcome Back games. What can I do?

A: If you navigate away from the Welcome Back section of the store without choosing your free games or exit the store completely you may need to follow the below in order to choose and download your free games.

On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB

Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List

Choose PlayStation Network Promotions from the list of services displayed

Select either PS3 Free Games or PSP Free Games and then choose Select Content

You will be taken to the store to choose your remaining free games.

ALSO KEEP IN MIND – A LOT of people are trying to use the PlayStation Store to download their free games. If you’re having a lot of errors, try it again later on, once things have calmed down a bit.
