Developer Mossmouth revealed during PlayStation’s Paris Games Week 2017 showcase that the follow-up to its dungeon-hopping platformer Spelunky is on the way.
Spelunky 2 will feature the child of the first game’s protagonist in a new and surely challenging adventure. While the announcement trailer promises that the “walls are shifting once again,” its logo (the numeral two embossed with a… crying moon?) and the catchphrase “looking to the skies” suggest that the sequel will move beyond the icy caves and treacherous temples of its predecessor.
Spelunky 2 will be launching “first” for PlayStation 4 and PC, but we still don’t know a release date. While other platforms have yet to be announced, the first Spelunky did end up on Xbox 360, so it’s likely Xbox One is a destination for the game later down the line. Though the game would be a great fit for the Nintendo Switch, no release for Nintendo’s hybrid console has been announced.
