In a surprise move, Nintendo revealed that the Octo Expansion will be launching sooner than anyone anticipated. The DLC will appear on the eShop sometime this evening for players in the United States (or early tomorrow, if you’re in Europe, Japan, or Australia).

First announced back in March, the Octo Expansion puts players into the shoes of Agent 8, an Octoling who’s left to navigate through the a mysterious, run-down test facility. The expansion will add over 80 single-player missions, and completing them all will let players play as Octolings in multiplayer matches. Additionally, more in-game gear will become available by completing bonus challenges, and players will unlock the Studio Octophones and Octo Layered LS upon purchasing the DLC.
To celebrate the launch of the Octo Expansion, three new amiibo have been unveiled. This trio of amiibo will be sold in a set consisting of the Octoling Girl, Octoling Boy, and the octopus form of them both. All three are rocking some bright pink ink. The amiibo pack will be available to buy later in 2018.
Finally, Nintendo announced more plans to continue to add free updates to Splatoon 2. Previously, these updates were scheduled to end in July. Now, though, more stages, weapons, and gear will continue to be added to the game until the end of the year.
The Octo Expansion is available to purchase for $19.99.
