Following in the footsteps of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2, Spyro the Dragon has captured the adoration of PlayStation fans.
According to the PlayStation Blog’s latest post, the Players’ Choice award for best new game of November went to Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The remastered collection from Activision beat out several other high-profile titles, with Battlefield V, Hitman 2, and The Forest taking “the first, second, and third runner-up spots, respectively.”
For fans curious of how Spyro’s collection stacked up against its competition on Metacritic, it seems the trilogy wasn’t the overall favorite of the bunch. While Spyro Reignited Trilogy currently shows a respectable Metacritic score of 82, Tetris Effect is the standout among critics at 89. Meanwhile, Hitman 2 is at 84, Battlefield V is at 73, and The Forest is at 78.
Despite having the higher critical score, Tetris Effect could have slipped from PlayStation Blog voters’ minds due to its VR capabilities. Many reviews have pointed out that the standard PlayStation 4 version was good, but playing through the PS VR headset was the way to go.
Still, nostalgia for Spyro and his first three journeys was strong. As we noted in our positive review of the collection, developer Toys for Bob’s ability to make all three games look more beautiful than the originals was reason enough for fans to pick it up.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
