In a unique partnership, Square Enix and Bigpoint have announced that they’ll be working together on Gameglobe, a new online project that mixes community aspects with a sprawling game world.
So, here’s how I understand it: Gameglobe is a new virtual world of sorts where not only can you play a wide array of games in said world, but where you can also build, program, and share your own levels to add to that world.
Playing out completely via your web browser, Gameglobe will be a “unique browser-based experience that allows players free access to endless game worlds and creative possibilities, all in HD quality. Players can choose to either create their own game or simply play the multitude of levels available at launch.”
“It’s never been easier to create your own game,” said Gameglobe director Rune Vendler in the company’s announcement. “We want Gameglobe to be a community where everyone can get involved in the fun: play new games every day, share your favourites, or flex your creative muscles with your own designs.”
The collaboration between Bigpoint and Square Enix comes in via Hapti.co, a Danish studio who is part of the Square Enix family of development studios.
Gameglobe is currently in closed beta, but Bigpoint says the beta will open to additional players in the coming months. To register for the beta, just hit the link below.
