Square Enix has offered a few details about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s upcoming Frontlines PvP mode, which sees up to 72 players fighting for control of Allagan ruins.

The mode sees three teams, each representing a Grand Company, of 24 players battling for control of the map. “Reduced to a desolate wasteland by the Calamity, the Carteneau Flats are devoid of all value save for the Allagan ruins scattered across its desolate landscape. With each nation coveting the untold secrets they possess, tensions mounted, threatening to undermine the very foundation of the Eorzean Alliance,” the developer explains.

“To prevent needless bloodshed, while permitting the pursuit of individual interests, the three nations have agreed to a civilized conflict within the borders of Carteneau. To that end, the Grand Companies now call upon regiments of adventurers to help lay claim to this contested domain.”

Players can earn points for their team by capturing land, defeating opponents, and defeating monsters that spawn on the field of battle. Once defeated, players will be transported to their Grand Company’s respective camp and may then rejoin the battle after a certain time limit—the limit will increase with each death. Players are also able to use mounts while in Frontlines.

Completing a Frontlines battle will earn players PvP experience, Wolf Marks, Allagan tomestones of mythology, and Allagan tomestones of soldiery. Also, winning a certain number of battle will reward players with the Warsteed mount.
