Square Enix Europe Facing Additional Layoffs

Posted on April 29, 2013 AT 12:16pm

Square Enix’s company-wide restructuring continues, bringing with it another round of layoffs for the company’s European branch.

“We are reviewing our business in Europe to ensure we have the right structure, content, and skills for the changing entertainment landscape,” said a Square Enix spokesperson. “We do expect changes in the UK office, which will affect personnel. We will update you when the time is right, but our priority right now is for people within the business.”

These restructuring efforts come in the wake of former Square Enix president Yoichi Wada’s resignation and Yosuke Matsuda’s promotion. Matsuda mentioned at the start of April he intended to review “all Square Enix duties, business, and assets on a zero-based budgeting standpoint.”

The company announced disappointment with the sales of Hitman: Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, and Tomb Raider about the same time as Matsuda’s rise to Square Enix president.
