Square Enix has some huge games on the table, including the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts III, and we may be hearing more about them sooner than anticipated.
During a recent investor conference call, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda suggested that the time between “the end of [fiscal year 2018] and E3” would be the perfect time for several important announcements. In other words, Square Enix will likely have some big announcements around April, May, and June 2018.
Note that these announcements aren’t the end results. The games in Square Enix’s arsenal won’t be released in April, May, or June. Instead, those are the months where Square Enix anticipates being far along enough with the games in order to, for example, set a release date or reveal significantly more content.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently set to release in 2018, so it’s a prime candidate to get a final release date during this window. We also haven’t heard much about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake recently, which could make this window a great opportunity to reveal more about where that game is in development.
Square Enix might also work on bringing several of its games to the Nintendo Switch.
“Nintendo Switch makes it easier for us to leverage our back catalogue of assets and expertise,” Matsuda said. “So we want to be proactive in creating new IP and rebooting past titles for that platform.”
Square Enix has considered making a Final Fantasy XV port on the Nintendo Switch. If that’s possible on current technology, that’s another top contender for announcements that Square Enix could reveal.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any ongoing news about what Square Enix has in the works. Currently, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in development for the PlayStation 4 with no known release date, while Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
