Well, it isn’t the sequel that some of us were expecting, but at least it’s a game announcement of some sort. Square Enix has leaked the secret behind their countdown site, an iPhone and iPad port of The World Ends With You.

Just a few days ago, Square Enix created a countdown website that incorporated elements from the DS role-playing game, such as artwork depicting Shibuya’s skyline and music from the TWEWY soundtrack.

But as discovered online (and archived by Siliconera), the existence of the port was leaked by information in product page information for the title’s arrange album, The World Ends With You – Crossover.

Some form of a mobile title was expected though, as the title will be hosted on the GREE network.

Perhaps speculation of a potential sequel was far too hopeful, but now it remains to be seen just how popular the iOS version will be at launch. Considering Square Enix’s reputation for extremely expensive ports, expect a high price tag.

There’s little point in watching the countdown now, but hopefully the port will release worldwide this year.
