Square-Enix Returns to Profitability

By

Square-Enix has returned to profitability for the year ending March 31, thanks to sales of Final fantasy XIII-2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The publisher posted a profit of 6.1 billion yen ($76 million), a serious improvement of the 12.6 billion ($160 million) yen loss last year. Its overall revenue came in at 127.9 billion yen ($1.6 billion). This good performance was credited to sales of FFXIII-2, Deus Ex and mobile games.

It’s good to see Square-Enix back on top, however some serious work is still needed to win fans back – especially with the Final Fantasy series. Although XIII-2 sold reasonably well, the team needs to get back to basics with the franchise, in order to win over those disillusioned by the two most recent entries.

What do Square-Enix need to do in order to improve the franchise?
