Square Enix Says That They Can Support Dragon Quest X For 10 Years
Posted on August 3, 2012 AT 12:02pm
If Dragon Quest X proves to be a success with Wii and Wii U owners, Square Enix says that they’ll have a gameplan to support the high-profile MMO role-playing game for an entire decade. According to Nikkei, one of Japan’s largest news networks, the developer/publisher is aiming to support DQX with downloadable content throughout that 10-year stretch with regular updates.
According to Andriasang, Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito had gone on record about a specific DLC timeline, saying that new content could be delivered every 10 weeks. That means Dragon Quest X would see over 50 DLC packs, updates, and quests during its lifetime, which would assume that the Wii and Wii U would be viable until August 2022.
Being able to support DQX for 10 years may sound ambitious, but Square Enix has notably provided consistent development and updates for Final Fantasy XI, even hosting a special celebration of the game with VanaFest 2012. Moreover, Square Enix’s other big MMO title, Final Fantasy XIV, has already proved itself to be quite profitable, even with additional development needed for the game’s newest version.
Dragon Quest X released in Japan this week for the Nintendo Wii, but Square Enix has yet to announce a localized version for North American or PAL regions. It’s also getting a re-release for the Nintendo Wii U at a future date.
