Karl Stewart, vice president of strategic marketing for North America and Europe at Square Enix, is working wrapping up his last day with the company today, he announced on his personal Tumblr account.

Stewart has been with Square Enix in some capacity for eight years, starting out as a graphic designer for Eidos Interactive on Tomb Raider Legend. Eventually he joined Crystal Dynamics in 2009 and served as the head of marketing for the Tomb Raider franchise.

Stewart’s departure is an amicable one, and a his own choice—he’s transitioning to VP of brand development and strategic partnerships for Petrol Advertising, a marketing company Stewart has collaborated with on projects for Batman: Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider, and Thief.

Petrol’s other works include marketing for BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Dark Souls II, Destiny, and a whole slew of other games.

According to Stewart, the height of his career at Square Enix was working at Crystal Dynamics and his involvement in 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot.

“It’s been an unbelievable ride over the last 8 years, and although I’ve already said this to the entire company on an internal email, I will say it again to anyone who reads this,” Stewart wrote. “Square Enix is an amazing company, whether you work for one of its studios or publishing arms, or if you’re thinking of joining, this company has given me the opportunity to grow and do what I love to do best, work in creative and ridiculously talented company at the heart of the video game industry.”
