Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront II‘s first community event has been detailed, bringing the experience of the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi to the battlefront.

Starting December 5th, players will have to choose to align themselves with either the Resistance or the First Order, a conflict straight out of the new film trilogy. Which side players land on will determine what challenges they will face over the course of the event, as well as what rewards they’ll earn at the end.

After a week of The Last Jedi–themed conflict, two new heroes will join the fight on December 13th: Finn from the Resistance and Captain Phasma of the First Order. Both heroes can be purchased with in-game Credits, but whichever faction wins the most challenges for that week will also enjoy a special Crate full of powerful upgrades for their respective hero.

Along with the new heroes, a new multiplayer map set on the planet Crait, which makes its debut in the film, will also drop on the 13th. This will launch in tandem with the Starfighter Assault map D’Qar, plus Tallie Lintra’s RZ-2 A-wing as a new hero ship. If all of this multiplayer content isn’t your speed, the 13th will also bring with it new chapters in the Battlefront II single-player campaign, following protagonist Iden Versio “during the days of the First Order’s rise to power”

All of the content listed above will be free for all players across every platform. Two weeks of special challenges will follow the new content, and the event’s full road map can be found below.

It’s a good thing that Battlefront II‘s post-launch DLC is free, because not all of its content is so well implemented. Even after changes to the game’s Crate system, following a recent backlash, the game’s Crate economy still seems geared toward benefiting those who put in the most money.

Star Wars Battlefront II is slated to launch November 17th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with those that picked up the Deluxe Edition getting access on November 14th.
