According to EA Games Label president Frank Gibeau, DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront is “well into development.”
“We showed 22 seconds of where we’re going with [Battlefront] and the fan response was very positive,” Gibeau said during a recent earnings call. “The DICE team is well into development on that product already, so we feel very bullish about our shooter rotation over the next several years.”
The new Battlefront was teased with an extremely short video shown during E3 this year, and is the first Star Wars title announced in the wake of EA and Disney’s partnership. During the earnings call, Gibeau also mentioned the new Battlefront will have “a third-person component.”
The original Star Wars: Battlefront, which was developed by Pandemic Studios and published by the now developmentally defunct LucasArts, was entirely third-person. Gibeau’s comment, at least to me, suggests that the new game might be a first-person shooter (which DICE is known for. See: Battlefield franchise) with a third-person shift when operating vehicles.
DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One using the Frostbite 3 engine. No release window has been given yet.
