The time of Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s free-to-play switch over is almost upon us and so BioWare has decided to test out the new Cartel Market cash shop on the game’s public test server.

Everyone can now jump on the PTS, accessed from the game’s log in window, and test out the marketplace with a stipend of free coins from BioWare. I jumped on last night and the items include armor sets, vanity items, pets, lightsaber crystals, XP boosters, and various free-to-play unlocks.

The major draw of the shop has to be the Cartel Pack grab bags which contain the rarest loot and only have a random chance of you getting said loot. People were eating these up on the test server and some of the items in them are amazing, such as a tank speeder and a floating throne for example. I can see these being a major money spinner for BioWare and EA going forward.

Everyone on the test server is currently set to subscriber status, but BioWare has said that this will be switched up soon so they can test out the free-to-play restrictions, also players will receive a constant flow of coins to test out the Cartel market with.
