Fans were quite angry when they heard about yet another unscheduled maintenance window for Star Wars: The Old Republic, but it looks like it was for a good reason.

It appears that an exploit was discovered by players that allowed them to get free items and crafting materials, an issue that could have caused real damage to the in-game economy if word spread. The single patch note for 1.3.4a reads:

General

  • Fixed an issue that could allow players to gain unearned items or crafting materials.

Now fans may be kicking up a fuss over some unscheduled downtime, however just imagine the repercussions if this had been left until Tuesday’s maintenance window. There would have been an uproar asking why BioWare didn’t fix an exploit as soon as it was discovered. The team did the right thing, it was only a short downtime and now everyone can get on with their play sessions without any worries.
