Star Wars: The Old Republic ‘is the Fastest Growing Subscription Based MMO in History’

THE BUZZ: EA has announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic has passed two million in sales since its launch in December of last year.
The game currently has 1.7 million active subscribers playing an average of four hours a day, the other 300,000 either never played or left the game. The publisher revealed that this “makes Star Wars: The Old Republic the fastest-growing subscription MMO in history.”
EGM’s TAKE: Many expected the game to be successful due to the Star Wars brand, however no one expected it on this level. The game has even managed to topple the mighty WoW in terms of first month sales, however it’s still a long way to go to hit the 8 million plus subscribers that WoW still retains. Before the game launched EA revealed it would need 500,000 active subscribers in order to break even, so this is fantastic news for them and fans of the game. With several content patches already in the works and new bug fixes being implemented every week, the future looks bright for The Old Republic.
